PREPARING FOR YOUR BACKFLOW TEST

Helpful hints to make your test go smoothly

1. Locate your backflow preventer. The device should be on your main water supply coming into the building, and adjacent to your water meter. If you can't locate the device and you are a commercial or industrial business, contact the owner of the facility. If you are a homeowner, we can assist you in locating your preventer. Prices will vary depending on technician accessibility.

2. Find out if the backflow preventer is in a locked area (e.g., closet, basement, crawl space, etc.). Make sure the key is available upon technician arrival. Prices will vary depending on techician accessibility.

3. Have the backflow testing notice/letter from local water authority handy. The technician will need to fill out the test report before he leaves the job site.

4. Be prepared to have your water shut off for approximately 20 minutes during the actual test. So you will want to arrange your schedule accordingly.

5. Understand that some backflow preventers may fail the test. If that is the case, the preventer may require cleaning or repairs and re-testing. Prices will vary.

6. Be prepared to supply payment in full upon completion of the backflow test. You will receive a copy of the test report for your records. The technician will send the report into the local water authority.
